The Black Country was the centre of the chain-making industry of Victorian England. Working conditions were appalling and the pay worse.
Women were a vital component in the machine, churning out the chains to bolster the Empire. And in 1910, in Cradley Heath, they made history by striking for a fair wage.
Ordinary people are often hidden from history, but by standing up and fighting for a cause they become vividly alive.
Rooftop Theatre’s fictionalized drama, forged from documented events, brings to fiery life the human stories of the women, and men, involved in making history.
