Shakespeare's great tragicomedy, The Winter's Tale, is a moving story of the consequences of jealousy and the power of remorse. Its plot deals with the blinding effect of egotism
and refusal to accept the truth. Leontes, King of Sicilia is thrown
into violent rage at the perceived affair between his wife
Hermione and best friend Polixenes, King of Bohemia. The results are catastrophic, resonating
through 16 years.
In Bohemia, King Polixenes is concerned at the activities of his son Florizel who is spending time in the company of shepherds and has fallen in love with shepherdess Perdita. Comedy and more drama follow as the dramatic threads of the paly come together for a surprising and bittersweet conclusion. Spanning geography, time, drama and comedy, The Winter's Tale is a perfect play for a summer evening; here performed by a cast of professionally trained and experienced amateur actors in a delightful parkland setting.
